Following the success of Woody Work day number one we have many more scheduled… So dig out your boots from under the stairs, fill up your flask (with coffee!) and prepare yourself for some physical work in the great outdoors!
What? Woody Work Days
When? 10am, Wednesday 10 October
Where? Meet 10am at the Masmill Oakwood car park, Whinlatter
Masmill Oakwood is a rare area of mature oak woodland in a forest that is hemmed in by conifer plantations, which means that these oaks are increasingly under threat from self-seeding conifers. Volunteers working at Masmill will be part of the change in woodland management towards the more naturalistic practice of continuous cover forestry, that will help protect and enhance these beautiful oaks. The aim of the day is to open up spaces for the oaks to naturally regenerate, so work will focus on pulling and cutting down self-seeded non-native conifer saplings. Though you will also be checking tree tubes and removing competing vegetation from young trees.
What to bring? Sturdy boots, waterproofs, packed lunch, drink and lots of energy! Tools and gloves will be provided
