Unfortunately due to the recent Foot & Mouth restrictions the work that was scheduled to start in September had to be postponed.

However, we are told that work can commence this week (assuming of course there are no further restrictions) – hurray!

So work to construct 900m path and 1500m of recycled plastic boardwalk is imminent and this will open up access to the 70 plus acre site enabling you to get up close and personal with wonderful flora and fauna, while ensuring the sensitive Special Area of Conservation (SAC) of Bassenthwaite Lake is protected.

The new paths are designed to provide access for all and will take visitors on a tour of the wetland, with opportunities to stop at viewing points and bird hides.

Volunteers will be working with Grampus to do the groundwork for the path and lay gravel. They will also be building round Celtic style wildlife hides made from sustainable materials.
